Rules of the Event
|
The Desert Classic DanceSport Festival is an NDCA recognized event and is being run under the rules of the NDCA. Please adhere to the rules found in the NDCA rulebook (click on the logo to the right).
If you have any questions regarding any of the rules, please contact the Organizers.
At the event, any questions regarding eligibility or other matters must be referred to the Chairman of Judges or the NDCA Observer.

RULES & REGULATIONS
General Rules:
All competing Professionals and amateurs must be currently registered with tee National Dance Council of America (NDCA). Proof of registration will be required. Registration forms will be available at the competition or may be requested by mail or go to www.ndca.org

All International competitors must be registered with their respective organizations. Proof of registrations will be required.
All Individuals attending this event, whether as spectators, competitors, officials or guests of the organizers, shall be bound by the NDCA rules, and by participating in this event automatically become obliged to adhere to them.
No responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in Changing Rooms, Ballrooms, or Hotel Rooms, can be accepted by the Organizers or by the National Dance Council of America, and neither can they be held liable for injury sustained by persons attending this event. Everyone attending does so at his/her own risk. In consideration of all goods and services, receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the undersigned hereby irrevocably give and grant to Desert Classic DanceSport Festival the right to use, refer to and reproduce programs by means of video recordings, in any and all media formats, hereinafter referred to as “reproductions”, edited and arranged as desire, using my name, voice, likeness, acts, poses, appearances and utterances as part of and in connection with my appearance on any program, and in any advertising, publicity and promoting relating to activities, the program and the products or services of any sponsor(s) thereof: and to exhibit, transmit, distribute, sell and use in any aspect of Participant’s performance at the Desert Classic DanceSport Festival, and otherwise use same as you desire in all fields and media throughout the world without limitations.
No video taping or filming will be allowed. Professional video production company will be on hand to record your dancing. Tapes will be made available for purchase.
No smoking in the ballroom is allowed.
All event time schedules are approximate are subject to change. For Student events, we request that you, your students, and your music be in the ballroom and ready to perform at least 30 minutes prior to any published time schedules.
In all competitive events, where there are less than 3 entries in a category, the organizers reserve the right to eliminate Age and Sex divisions and combine categories. The organizer also9 reserves the right to cancel any Scholarship events where there are less than 3 entries.
Dress Code:
Juniors through Youth: Appropriate costuming only. You must adhere to NDCA costuming requirements. Inappropriate costuming WILL be grounds for disqualification. For rules & regulations, you may visit the NDCA at www.NDCA.org.
Newcomers: Costumes not allowed. Suits and Cocktail dresses are recommended. All other student levels are open for Latin Dresses or Ball Gowns for the Ladies and Tuxedos, Tails or Cat Suits for the men.
Novice & Pre-Novice: Optional Attire.
In addition to current NDCA rules & regulations, steps used in American Style categories should be according to published syllabus by any organization that is a member of the NDCA International style is as per USISTD syllabus.
Dance Categories:
Newcomers Pre Bronze Pre Silver Pre Gold Exhibition
Intm. Bronze Intm. Silver Intm. Gold
Full Bronze Full Silver Full Gold
Open Bronze Open Silver Open Gold
Students may enter at any level of dance and THREE higher in any one style of dance. Students may enter in completely different dance levels in the American style between Smooth ad Rhythm and in the International Style between Standard Modern and Standard Latin American. There is no limit on student entries in Open or Closed Freestyle Divisions.

Age Divisions:
The age of the Amateur or Student is the only consideration. Pre-Teen, Junior and Youth competitors may dance up one age classification
Pro/Am One Dance Age Classifications: Juvenile (Under 9 years) Pre-Teen (9-12) Junior (13-15) Youth (16-18)
A-1 (16-35 B-1 (51-60) C-1 (71-80)
A-2 (36-50A) B-2 (61-70) C-2 (81+)
Pro/Am Scholarships: Closed Scholarships: A (18-35) B (36-50) C (51 & Over)
Open Scholarships: No Age Classifications
Pro/Am Scholarship Events:
To qualify for these scholarship events, a student must be entered in a minimum of five (5) Freestyle, Solo, or Pro/Am One-Dance competitions
PER SCHOLARSHIP EVENT ENTERED.
Scholarships are unisex competitions for Pro/Am adults only.
No student may dance in both Open and Closed Scholarships in the same style.
Please note that Multi-Dance categories do not fulfill the 5-dance requirement noted above. Closed Scholarship candidates must stay within the Bronze & Silver Syllabus. Open Scholarship candidates may dance open figures A panel of invigilators will be used for all restricted categories (closed divisions). The categories will be strictly supervised and competitors committing infractions may be disqualified.
Solo Exhibitions:
No Solo Exhibition is to exceed three minutes. Music must be on individual cassettes or CD and must be submitted at least 30 minutes prior to dancing the solo event. Critique/Score Sheets will be given on Solo Exhibitions only.
Cancellations and Refunds:
ANY CANGES OR CANCELLATIONS MUST BE MADE IN WRITING ONLY. The deadline for cancellation refunds is two weeks prior to the first day of the event. Entry fees are not refundable under any circumstances due to the processing costs incurred by the organizers. Non-refundable entries may be given credit for one year toward the next competition at the organizers descrition. Package and ticket (tickets purchased prior to July 1, 2008) refunds will be granted within 30 days of the close of the event. No substitutions are allowed for any entry cancelled at the event. Entries received after the deadline can be subject to a $50 late charge per entrant, if accepted.
All entries must be paid prior to the start of the event. Entries cancelled after the closing date or during the event WILL NOT be subject to refunds. Tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable after July 1, 2008.
Payment:
Payment can be made either by cashier’s check, money order or cash. Personal checks will only be accepted up until the closing date of June 20, 2008.
Top Teacher Qualifications:
Male Teachers must have a minimum of 3 students on a package and 30 entries OR 50 pro/am entries
Female Teachers must have a minimum of 2 students on a package and 30 entries OR 50 pro/am entries
For 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, the teacher must have a minimum of 200,150 and 125 pro/am entries respectively.
All dances must be danced to qualify for top teacher points which include qualification for World Pro-Am DanceSport Series
Placement Points to Teachers for each Pro/Am or Student/Student Entry:
